Speculation Swirls About Possible Democratic Replacement for Joe Biden in 2024, Among Republicans, Trump Leads but Vivek Ramaswamy Surges; Did ex-VP Pence Impale Himself? Plus MHMarkets Update

SpeculationSwirlsAboutPossibleDemocraticReplacementForJoeBidenIn2024AmongRepublicansTrumpLeadsButVivekRamaswamySurgesDidExVpPenceImpaleHimselfPlusMHMarketsUpdateMHProNews

There are voices among Democratic faithful that have been speculating that the ground is being plowed to cause Joe Biden’s exit from the pursuit for the Democratic Presidential Nominee in the 2024 election cycle. Governor Gavin Newsom (CA-D), Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (MI-D) and former first lady Michelle Obama are among the names floated by pundits that might replace Biden. Of course, Democratic hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wants that nominee to be himself, and among announced candidates who are not Biden, RFK Jr. is in the lead in that party. On the Republican side of the contest, 45th President of the United States (POTUS) Donald J. Trump is in runaway first place position. Some assert that Trump is pulling away from the pack, as #2 GOP or Grand Old Party hopeful Governor Ron DeSantis (FL-R) has been steadily sliding despite very promising fundraising hauls. Former Vice President Michael “Mike” Pence, Trump’s erstwhile VP, is said by some to have skewered his own campaign when he recently remarked about Ukraine vs. American needs in a recent interview with Tucker Carlson. More on that below. Insights on RFK Jr. from his campaign are also found below.

Following DeSantis, there has been an interesting surge by Indian-American success story, Vivek Ramaswamy. According to the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average of polls, Ramaswamy is now #3, ahead of Pence, ahead of pro-manufactured housing Senator Tim Scott (SC-R), and the rest of the large and perhaps still growing Republican field.

Before pivoting to a pitch by Ramaswamy’s campaign, the following on Pence from the right-leaning New York Post is of interest to 2024 campaign and political watchers.

QuoteMarksLeftSideYou are distressed that the Ukrainians don’t have enough American tanks. Every city in the United States has become much worse over the past three years. Drive around. There’s not one city that’s gotten better in the United States, and it’s visible,” [Tucker] Carlson says during a forum at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa.

“Our economy has degraded, the suicide rate has jumped, public filth and disorder and crime have exponentially increased, and yet, your concern is that the Ukrainians – a country most people can’t find out a map – who’ve received tens of billions of US tax dollars don’t have enough tanks. I think it’s a fair question to ask, like, where’s the concern for the United States in that?” Carlson asks Pence.

To which Pence responds, “It’s not my concern. Tucker, I’ve heard that routine from you before, but that’s not my concern.”

Several conservatives on social media seized on the clip, including Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who shared a snippet of the exchange on Twitter and wrote, “Tucker Carlson just brutalized Mike Pence for prioritizing Ukraine despite a litany of social ills afflicting America.”

The former vice president shot back at Kirk on social media, sharing a clip with his full answer to Carlson that showed him explaining that under a Pence administration, the country would be able to tackle both issues affecting Ukraine and domestic problems at the same time. …”

Be that as it may, Pence is trailing Gov. DeSantis, Ramaswamy, and Senator Scott. Ramaswamy and Scott have had polite thoughts shared about them by deposed President Trump, which fueled speculation that one of them may be considered for his vice-presidential spot selection, because Pence is emphatically not on Trump’s list. It also seems unlikely that DeSantis might be a VP pick, as DeSantis himself said he is not a ‘number two’ kind of guy.

With those thoughts in mind, the following from the Ramaswamy campaign to MHProNews on 7.17.2023, sans the link for campaign donations, is below. It will be followed by information from the RFK Jr. Democratic campaign.

Part I – Vivek Ramaswamy (R) Campaign

Fellow American,
Wokeness is a new secular religion that says your identity is based on your race and sexuality. This is destroying America in front of our eyes.I’m on a mission to stop it. I wrote two bestselling books and started a new company to take on wokeness on Wall Street, but we must do more and address the real problem: we are going through a national identity crisis.I’m Vivek Ramaswamy, and I launched my campaign for President of the United States to deliver an answer to the most important question of our time: what it means to be an American. Today I am asking YOU to be a part of our movement. [MHProNews Note: hotlinks removed, this is a report, not an endorsement.]

I remember when I was in 2nd grade and heard Martin Luther King’s “I Have Dream” speech for the first time: America judges its children not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character.

I grew up in Ohio in the 90s to two immigrants who came to this country with almost no money. I was a skinny kid with nerdy glasses and a funny last name. Achievement was my ticket to get ahead. After graduating from Harvard and Yale, I went on to start a family and founded multibillion-dollar companies.

You probably know me as the author of Woke, Inc. – or by what left-leaning outlets have called me, like “the intellectual godfather of the anti-woke movement” (Politico), “CEO of Anti-Woke, Inc.,” (The New Yorker), or the “right’s leading anti-ESG crusader” (AxiosBloomberg, and others). I take their criticisms as a badge of honor because we are standing up for what is right – and true.

I’m 37 years old. People my age and younger can’t even answer what it means to be an American today.

My peers have abandoned faith, patriotism, and hard work and instead embrace new secular religions like covidism, climatism, and radical gender ideology.

I’m running for President of the United States of America to revive the ideals that made America great – and made America itself. If this is important to you too, then I need you to be a part of this movement. …

It’s not enough to just be AGAINST something like wokeness… we need to be FOR something.

We are on a mission to create a new American Dream for the next generation.

We must embrace merit and excellence in every sphere of our lives:

Merit in who gets into America. More immigrants like my parents, instead of illegal immigrants who break the law to enter the country.

Merit in who gets ahead in America. You win in America not on the color of your skin, but on the content of your character and contributions.

Merit in who governs America. I have a humble dream that the people who we elect to run the government should be the ones who actually run the government, not federal bureaucrats who multiply themselves like a national cancer.

Merit in the marketplace of ideas. The best ideas win when no ideas are censored.

I think you believe in these ideals. I think you believe your neighbors and colleagues believe in these ideals too, but you can’t be sure because you’re not allowed to talk about it anymore. We still agree on the basic ideals – at least most of us do.

I am running for President to save the ideals that made America great. …”

RFK, Jr. Hits Back at New York Post Accusations

NEW YORK, NY—JULY 16, 2023—Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. hit back Saturday at charges of anti-Semitism contained in an article by Jon Levine in the New York Post.

Kennedy issued the following statement:

“The New York Post story is mistaken. I have never, ever suggested that the COVID-19 virus was engineered to ‘spare Jews,’ and I unequivocally reject this disgusting and outlandish conspiracy theory.

“New York Post reporter Jon Levine exploited this off-the-record conversation to smear me as an anti-Semite. This cynical maneuver is consistent with the mainstream media playbook to discredit me as a crank — and by association, to discredit revelations of genuine corruption and collusion.”

As Joel Pollak points out in a Breitbart column today, Mr. Kennedy never actually said that the coronavirus was “ethnically targeted to spare Jews.”

“It was Levine, and not myself, who invoked anti-Semitic tropes when he attributed words to me (that Covid was engineered to ‘spare the Jews’),” said Kennedy.
“Levine is fabricating an opinion, attributing it to me, and trolling for scandal.”

“By cynically leveling anti-Semitism charges, Levine devalues the term at a time when REAL anti-Semitism is rampant. What’s more, by using the racially-charged words, ‘sparing Jews,’ with their Biblical associations, he is inflaming fear, hate, and suspicion.”

Kennedy says that he will be sending a demand to Levine at the New York Post for a retraction of the article.

Kennedy also confirmed that both the U.S. and China have done research into ethnically-targeted bioweapons. “History shows that Jews, Africans, and the indigenous have the most to fear from such technologies,” he said. “We must rein in all bioweapons research, whether these weapons are ethnically targeted or not. We saw what COVID did to the world when it was leaked from a laboratory.”

Mr. Kennedy also recorded a conversation on this issue with Rabbi Shmuley in which he reaffirmed his non-negotiable support for the Jewish people and the state of Israel. …##

On July 14, 2023 the Kennedy Campaign sent MHProNews the following.

QuoteMarksLeftSideFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Kennedy to Testify on Censorship and Collusion Between Government and Social Media Companies

WASHINGTON, DC—JULY 14, 2023—The Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government will hold a hearing on Thursday, July 20 at 9 a.m. ET in the Rayburn House Office Building, 2141 Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, DC. The hearing will examine the federal government’s role in censoring Americans, the Missouri v. Biden case, and Big Tech’s collusion with out-of-control government agencies to silence speech.

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will be the prime witness at the hearing, where he will describe the effects of unconstitutional censorship not only on his campaign but on the rights of the American people.

“Recent revelations in the Twitter Files and Missouri v. Biden show how deeply institutionalized government censorship has become,” Kennedy said. “It is dressed up in euphemisms like, ‘working with our partners in tech,’ but make no mistake, this is a systematic program to control what Americans can say and think. As such, it is antithetical to democracy. In a democracy, the people tell the government what to think, not the other way around.” … ##

Also from the Kennedy campaign, from the Missouri v. Biden link, are the following remarks.

QuoteMarksLeftSideRFK, Jr. Responds to Federal Judge Freedom of Speech, Censorship Ruling

July 05, 2023

LOS ANGELES, CA—JULY 5, 2023—A federal judge issued an injunction Tuesday prohibiting Biden administration officials and federal agencies from communicating with social media companies about certain forms of protected speech.

The 155-page ruling details numerous clear violations of the First Amendment’s free speech clause. Amply referenced and footnoted, the document describes how Biden administration officials demanded that social media companies suppress information and deplatform people who expressed political views they deemed harmful.

“This ruling has been widely reported as barring the administration from ‘working with,’ ‘contacting,’ or ‘coordinating with’ social media,” said Democratic Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., who is mentioned in the injunction as one of the people censored on social media.

“These are euphemisms. The case is about blatant censorship, in which government agencies colluded with and coerced tech platforms to censor Constitutionally-protected speech.”

As described in the injunction, government censorship demands were backed with threats to revoke Article 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which shields social media companies from liability for actions taken on their websites, as well as the threat of anti-trust action. Both of these, in the words of Mark Zuckerberg, are “existential threats” to social media companies’ business.

The injunction describes the formation of a censorship apparatus that includes public-private partnerships with groups like the Virality Project, the Stanford Internet Observatory, and the Election Integrity Project. They operated not only through direct demands, but also through creating a tacit consensus about what information is permissible.

Disallowed posts and suppressed information included those:

  • Questioning the safety of the Covid vaccines
  • Claiming the shots did not prevent infection or transmission
  • Doubting the utility of masks and lockdowns
  • Suggesting the lab leak hypothesis for Covid origins
  • Questioning the integrity of the 2020 elections
  • Claiming the authenticity of the Hunter Biden laptop story

“The judge got it exactly right when he wrote, ‘Freedom of speech and press is the indispensable condition of nearly every other form of freedom,’” Kennedy said. “Without freedom of speech, there is no democracy.”

Attorneys for Team Kennedy are considering further legal action to protect Mr. Kennedy’s rights and those of the campaign to be heard, free of censorship. ##

Part III – Additional Information with More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary

It should be apparent that who sits in the White House, or various state governor’s offices, makes a difference for the business climate. Which party dominates in the legislature, or at the state level, and who holds key posts like the state’s attorney general’s office, or the secretary of state, can be critical.

RealClearPoliticsAvgPollsDemsRepublicansScreenshot 2023-07-17 112252-MHProNews

Political campaigns and the mainstream media learned decades ago that public opinion polling creates a greater interest in various campaigns months or even a year or more ahead of actual voting. It is a common and apt point made by pundits, candidates, and others that the polling only matters much closer to the actual voting. That’s both true and misleading. Who the ‘final’ two or three candidates are in primaries or during the general election is often determined early on.  So, decisions are being made NOW and in the near term that will determine the 2024 campaigns for the White House, House, Senate, state races, etc.  Engagement and understanding earlier in the electoral process, not later on, are better not only for candidates, but for citizens. Early understanding benefits “We the People.”

That said, to dot the i and provide some evidence and context for previously noted items in the preface of this report, the following tweets are useful.

Because what some call the “political class” in conjunction with big media benefit and profit from campaigns, they also often have their own agendas.

Without claiming the same high level of expertise on these topics that MHProNews‘ possess on manufactured housing, nevertheless MHProNews can and does provide sufficient research with reliable insights that can yield actionable information useful for industry professionals, owners, investors, and affordable housing advocates.

For instance. Without a doubt, housing affordability has plunged in the Biden era.  That’s per sources such as CNN and the National Association of Realtors (NAR).  Younger voters, who often tend to vote Democratic, were reportedly frustrated in the run up to the 2022 midterms, because of issues like the growing lack of housing affordability.

Trade groups are prudent to maintain working relationships with people on both sides of the two major party aisle.  That said, that principle doesn’t mean that a trade group should toss its stated principles and goals out the window. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) doesn’t seem to do so. Nor does the National Assocation of Home Builders (NAHB).  Nor does the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) toss out their principles because of a change in political winds.

So, why did MHI squander it opportunity during the Trump years?  How so, some may ask?

The Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) CEO Lesli Gooch said several of the right things in a multi-page letter to then HUD Secretary Ben Carson, M.D. But especially in the light of the remarks by Cavco Industries (CVCO) CEO and MHI Vice-Chairman William “Bill” Boor, it becomes clear that MHI, by accident or design, fumbled during the Trump years.

GoochLetterSecCarsonEnhancedPreemption

Dr. Carson, while at HUD, had even more specific communications from MHARR as Gooch’s, noted above. But MHI had face time. Why didn’t MHI inform Carson about the MHIA of 2000 and enhanced preemption in person with Dr. Carson? Why didn’t MHI then press for the MHIA’s “enhanced preemption” enforcement, which they recently postured with Bill Boor’s remarks? Where is the hard, measurable evidence of “superb” performance by Gooch and company that causes faux praise?

MHI’s leaders have boxed themselves in through their pattern of self-contradictory remarks and behaviors.  In contrast to the consistency of MHARR, MHI’s staff and corporate leaders can’t seem to keep their remarks and behaviors straight.  Note that Bill Boor’s remarks, linked here and above, only confirmed the thesis of the report linked below.

Manufactured housing pros need a post-production association that consistently does what MHARR has done for decades. MHI blew it during the Trump years, when an obviously pro-manufactured housing Dr. Carson was singing the praises of manufactured housing, even when that wasn’t a planned topic. An example is posted below.

HUDSecretaryBenCarsonQuoteExtraordinaryInnovativeManufacturedHousingBarriersEagleRightWingLeftWingManufacturedHomeProNews

By contrast to Carson, Biden’s HUD Secretary Marcia Fudge has proven herself to be willing to mouth nice things about manufactured housing. But when asked by a member of Congress about implementing the MHIA and “enhanced preemption” Fudge shot that down and said it is not going to happen. See her specific comments in the report linked below.

There is an obvious need for EVERY citizen to be keenly aware of the pattern of paltering and posturing that occurs in politics and in the business and association worlds too. Some people shoot straight, as an example, think MHARR.  Try to find a topic where MHARR said one thing, but did another? Good luck with that search. But in stark contrast, MHI has for years said certain things and then failed to do the logical follow ups.  It is not just MHARR, but MHI members – past and present – that have pointed out the inconsistencies, either intentionally or by implication.
