‘The Way Everyone Should Do It’-Ron Kovach, Press Secretary at FAIR Exclusive–‘Under Biden, Citizens Compete with Non-Citizens’ – Housing, Jobs and Manufactured Homes; plus MHVille Markets Update

TheWayEveryoneShouldDoItRonKovachPressSecretaryAtFAIRexclusive–UnderBidenCitizensCompeteWithNonCitizensHousingJobsAndManufacturedHomesPlusMHVilleMarketsUpdateMHProNews

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) is a nonpartisan nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. Per FAIR’s website, “And without the policies and legal processes that keep our [national] sovereignty as originally imagined, we risk losing it all to those who embrace an agenda of mass uncontrolled immigration, sanctuary cities and cheap labor.” MHProNews reached out to FAIR as part of a follow up to the popular recent report, linked here. After providing replies to a series of questions from MHProNews, including some back-and-forth email follow ups, FAIR Press Secretary Ron Kovach said that the way this writer for MHProNews parents came to America – applying, getting a sponsor and doing it all according to immigration law – is: “The way that everyone should do it!”  Site and email data from our report last week reflects significant interest in the topic, which led to this follow-up report and the Q&A below with FAIR’s Kovach. FAIR’s literature says that they do not endorse candidates, stressing their principles-based advocacy is not partisan-politics driven.

Immigration has long been a hot-button issue in American politics. Democratic party politics arguably took a pivot on this issue in recent years for more ‘open borders,’ while Republican politicos have largely taken a more pro-immigration control stance since the Trump era of the Grand Old Party (GOP or Republican Party).  But to be accurate, there are members of both major parties that have donors who  think they benefit from open borders and cheap labor coming into the U.S.A., legally or not. With Democratic presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. visiting the U.S. Mexican border in Yuma, AZ recently and decrying the problems that arise from open borders, this may well become a hotter topic for both major parties. For more background, see the report linked here and further below.

  • Part I of today’s report will be the Q&A with FAIR’s Press Secretary Ron Kovach, which aimed to shed more light on the issues raised in the report with analysis above.
  • Part II will be additional information with MHProNews analysis and commentary in brief.
  • Part III is our Daily Business News on MHProNews macro- and manufactured housing connected markets report.

Part I

In what follows a “gotaway” or “got away” is defined by federal officials as: “an unlawful border crosser who- (A) is directly or indirectly observed making an unlawful entry into the United States; (B) is not apprehended; and. (C) is not a turn back.” CBP is an abbreviation for “Customs and Border Protection.”

According to their website, “Ron Kovach joined FAIR in July 2022, bringing with him an array of Capitol Hill and campaign communications experience.”

MHProNews to FAIR’s Press Secretary Ron Kovach #1) It seems obvious that an under-reported aspect of the border/illegal immigration crisis is the impact it has on the affordable housing crisis. Can you provide some details there? What percentage of those border crossers are living in hotels (as in New York City), in tents in camps, and what percentage are essentially competing with citizens and legal immigrants for housing?

FAIR’s Ron Kovach’s reply:

QuoteMarksLeftSideBased on the current status of illegal immigration in this country it is very difficult to get an accurate figure on how housing is divided amongst the illegal immigrant community. FAIR found earlier this year that public housing for those here illegally costs American taxpayers over $334 million every year. It is safe to assume that after all of the illegal border crossings under President Biden that citizens are competing with non-citizens for housing.”

2) Do you have an updated estimate on how many have crossed since Joe Biden moved into the White House?

FAIR’s Ron Kovach’s reply:

QuoteMarksLeftSideAn updated estimate for border crossings under Biden is 7.5 million. That number is arrived at by taking CBP border encounters, roughly 6 million, and adding that to the assumed gotaway number which is more than 1.5 million. A gotaway is someone who entered the country without interacting with border enforcement, meaning there is no way of telling how high the actual gotaway number may be.”

3) In our view, another under-reported aspect of the immigration crisis is the corrosive impact it has on wages of U.S. employees. Do you have data on that, please?

FAIR’s Ron Kovach’s reply:

QuoteMarksLeftSideIllegal immigration has an enormous impact on U.S. wages. Illegal immigration into this country costs American tax payers over $150 billion every year. That number factors in medical expenditures, justice enforcement, welfare programs and more. If you do not factor in the taxes that illegal immigrants pay that number goes up to $182 billion.

Here is a figure to explain:

4) Is there any data on how many jobs these illegals have taken, given that unemployment remains low and there are still some 10.1 million open jobs?

FAIR’s Ron Kovach’s reply:

QuoteMarksLeftSideUntil E-Verify is a nationwide policy, those here illegally will continue to be employed in the U.S. In many states, there are no policies to ensure American citizens are entitled to jobs in America.”

Part II – Additional Information with More MHProNews Analysis and Commentary in Brief

According to CNS News the “Cost of Shelter Largest Contributor to Inflation in May” of 2023.

– Shelter cost up 8.0% YoY, accounting for 60% of CPI increase in May

– Transportation services cost up 10.2% YoY; Used car and truck prices up 4.1% MoM, down 4.2% YoY

– May CPI rose 4.0% YoY, mainly influenced by increase in shelter and used vehicle costs, as well as food prices.

Left-leaning Politico said on May 12, 2023 that “Joe Biden is getting pummeled on immigration — from both sides of the political spectrum.”

Left-leaning Axios said that “America turns against immigration” noting that “Nearly 2/3 of the dissatisfied want less immigration.” That same source noted that: “the share of Independents and Democrats wanting less immigration has spiked in recent years…”

On 6.13.2023, the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) had no results for a site search of the topic of immigration on their website. MHI claims to represent “all segments” of the manufactured home industry. What about employees or would be consumers? Does MHI claim to represent them too? If not, why not? If so, then why doesn’t MHI take a strong and steady principled stance for law enforcement, which a well-known attorney and MHI ally says are keys to a prosperous republic?

Immigration is an issue that has partisan implications but is best understood as a nonpartisan issue.

According to World Population Review in 2023: there are about 128,579,000 households in the U.S.A.  Doing the math using FAIR’s annual cost for immigration, the cost per U.S. household is about $1167.  The left-leaning Pew Research Center said on September 8, 2022 that: “As the number of people apprehended for illegally crossing the southern border has reached record annual levels, about three-quarters of Americans (73%) say increasing security along the U.S.-Mexico border to reduce illegal crossings should be a very (44%) or somewhat (29%) important goal of U.S. immigration policy.”

So, nonpartisan FAIR’s stance is in line with what Pew’s research reveals.

Per a FAIR post in March 2023 are the following bullets.

  • In 2017, the estimated net cost of illegal migration was approximately $116 billion. In just 5 years, the cost to Americans has increased by nearly $35 billion.
  • Each illegal alien or U.S.-born child of illegal aliens costs the U.S. $8,776 annually.
  • Evidence shows that tax payments by illegal aliens cover only around a sixth of the costs they create at all levels in this country.
  • A large percentage of illegal aliens who work in the underground economy frequently avoid paying any income tax at all.
  • Many illegal aliens actually receive a net cash profit through refundable tax credit programs.

FAIR noted that there is a “lack of transparency” in government data on the immigration issue.  In several ways, immigration are ‘rule of law’ issues. Simply enforcing E-Verify and other existing laws could steadily begin a process that causes illegal migrants to leave the U.S. and back toward their own or other countries. Enforcing E-Verify could also send the message that others should not bother coming, because they won’t be able to get a job. Those notions underscore points cited from the FAIR website at the top of this report and analysis. Increased crime, drug use, illnesses and other issues arise as a result of illegal immigration. Good laws ought to be enforced. To learn more, see the linked reports.

MHProNews Editor’s Notes: the report linked immediately above the Vexing Dozen didn’t hit that lofty peak, but it wasn’t far from it. Immigration is routinely a hot topic on the MHProNews website when presented, because it is an important issue for Americans in general, manufactured housing professionals and advocates included. So, if MHI actually cared about the industry’s true advancement instead of favoring talking points and posturing that fosters consolidation, they should begin to embrace a policy of transparency and balanced coverage on all issues that directly or indirectly touch manufactured housing. To learn more about the sobering realities of MHVille, the Vexing Dozen is a good place to start. Another is linked below. Each happen to include some of the hottest, and most recent reports that explain manufactured housing industry underperformance during an affordable housing crisis.
