While manufactured home sales are trending up, it must not be overlooked that this trend only shifted due to the post-COVID19 pandemic declaration. Prior to that upward shift, there was a 2 ½ year downturn in manufactured housing while conventional housing continued to rise. A possible cause of that manufactured housing downturn? It happens to coincide with the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) promotion of CrossMod^TM homes. Despite MHI’s claims that their focus group and other research indicated how affordable housing shoppers would seek out there Clayton Homes backed “new class of manufactured homes” called CrossMods, the dip in sales and production occurred instead. The facts by year are illustrated in the MHProNews graphic below, which can be expanded to a larger size in many browsers and devices. See those tips below the graphic.

 

More recently, MHI has ironically admitted in an email to their own members that they have provided the Department of Energy a plan that they claim would allow DOE to revive the energy rule that the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform has vigorously opposed.
