“China is now engaged in an economic blitzkrieg” a “campaign to seize…the global economy and…surpass the United States as the world’s preeminent superpower” AG Bill Barr, plus Manufactured Housing Stock, Investing Updates

This is just one of several features that keeps MHProNews the runaway most-read, most-trusted trade media in manufactured housing.

Left-of-center Bloomberg provided these pull-quotes from Attorney General William “Bill” Barr’s speech today that spent considerable time focusing on Communist China.

– “The ultimate ambition of China’s rulers isn’t to trade with the United States; it is to raid the United States.”

– “As its ruthless crackdown of Hong Kong demonstrates once again, China is no closer to democracy today than it was in 1989.”

Attorney General William Barr said China’s goal is to “replace” American businesses as global leaders, that “win-win in China means China wins twice,” and attacked the “fundamental character” of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) at a speech at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Before pressing ahead, let’s note that some members of the Trump Administration, in the White House, and the Trump campaign are well aware of the various methods that can be used to persuade or influence people. That’s not a left-thing, or a right-thing. Campaign emails from Democrats have different talking points than those from Republicans.

But both are doing some things similarly.

That said, what is necessary or useful for thinking people willing to consider other’s thoughts is to separate the wheat from the chaff. Regardless of the source, what is true, what is not, what is spin, what is cheerleading or hype?

For over a year, MHProNews has spotlighted the quote “The system is rigged.” Senators Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and President Trump are among numbers of others across the left-right divide that have used those exact words and/or words very similar to them.

Rephrased, there is little doubt that the system is rigged.

The questions ought to be, who has rigged the system?

How has the system been rigged?

How can it be unrigged?

A.G. Barr, said author Michael Pillsbury on right-of-center Fox Business, is a China expert who used to work for the CIA and speaks some Mandarin. Pillsbury said that his speech today was a blockbuster. It calls out not only China, but those American businesses that freely align with China.

With that backdrop, following the left-right bullet headlines tonight from CNN and Fox, some quotable quotes, and two of our three market summaries at the closing bell is our featured focus this evening. The manufactured housing specific stocks and those firms with significant interests in manufactured homes and communities follows the featured focus, the recent and related reports, near the end of this business-nightly report.

Where Business, Politics and Investing Can Meet

For several weeks, President Donald J. Trump has made it no secret that he is “not happy with China.” More recently, he said that he is not seeking a phase two trade deal.

But today’s speech by Attorney General William “Bill” Barr is arguably the strongest indication yet that the U.S. is either moving toward a break of trade with China and/or is trying to signal its own businesses to realize that they better pull out while they can before such a formal statement is made.

What left-of-center Bloomberg thought was a key part of today’s speech is found in their video linked below.

Centrist The Hill provided this video of the full AG Barr address earlier today, 7.16.2020.

What Fox Business thought were the top lines follow.

WASHINGTON — The United States has become overly reliant on Chinese goods and services, including face masks, medical gowns, and other protective equipment designed to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Attorney General (AG) William “Bill” Barr said Thursday.

Barr accused hackers linked to the Chinese government of targeting American universities and businesses. Their stated goal is to steal research related to vaccine development, leveling that allegation against Beijing hours after Western agencies made similar claims against Russia.

Barr’s address at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is part of a growing move by the Trump administration to denounce China for their failure to warn the U.S. and the world about the true threat from the Wuhan China originated virus, which is required by their membership in the World Health Organization (WHO).

President Donald Trump is trying to beat back criticism of his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the U.S. economic downturn that followed by shifting the blame back onto Beijing. In doing so, he is also asserting that he is tougher on China than Democratic rival Joe Biden was during the Obama-Biden administration.

The People’s Republic of China is now engaged in an economic blitzkrieg — an aggressive, orchestrated, whole-of-government (indeed, whole-of-society) campaign to seize the commanding heights of the global economy and to surpass the United States as the world’s preeminent superpower,” Barr said.

FBI Director Chris Wray detailed said the FBI was opening a counterintelligence investigation related to China about every 10 hours.

Barr’s speech amounted to a wide-ranging condemnation of what he said were Beijing’s tactics to gain an economic upper hand in the 21st century and to pressure American corporate leaders to promote policies favorable to the Communist government.

Barr warned that American business leaders could run afoul of federal foreign lobbying laws if they do not disclose relationships with Beijing. He also said that universities that welcome Chinese-funded initiatives could unwittingly lose control of academic research.

Hollywood, too, has succumbed to influence from Beijing, Barr said, accusing filmmakers of censoring themselves in line with Chinese propaganda.

One known example of that trend is in the not-yet-released sequel to Top Gun.

Globalization does not always point in the direction of greater freedom. A world marching to the beat of Communist China’s drums will not be a hospitable one for institutions that depend on free markets, free trade, or the free exchange of ideas,” Barr said.

President Trump’s relationship with China was described by Fox as “complicated.”  That is certainly accurate, but why it complex is arguably better explained by the various internal American voices that press Washington for no or as little change in policy toward China as possible. That influence reaches members of both major parties.

SnapshotsVCChinaUSTradeOtherNationsManufacturedHomeProNews
When one looks at middle class income, it was arguably more secure in 1980 – before trade with China became serious – and in the decades since. Both major parties have responsibility for past trade decisions that led us to this difficult moment in time.

While Russia has more nuclear weapons, China has more economic power.
