HUD’s 2019 IT Innovation Award

This pro-industry trade media platform periodically spotlights “News through the lens of manufactured homes, and factory-built housing.” © We curate content you routinely will find no where else in manufactured housing, save right here on the Daily Business News on MHProNews.

Why should this HUD award matter to MHVille professionals?  Here’s the take to consider.  HUD’s Secretary Ben Carson and their leadership are perhaps not getting the credit for shaking up many items that have been their status quo for decades.  In a large, federal bureaucracy that’s routinely has entranced interests, it’s not easy to do.

That said, HUD Secretary Carson – blasted by many in media and politics – has recently made a very pro-manufactured home industry statement, in sufficient depth, that it ought to be front page news. Why isn’t it?

Some may dismiss Secretary Carson, as non-partisan trade media, we’ve taken him seriously since his nomination for the role.  What tomorrow brings from HUD on manufactured housing is not yet known.  But what we do know is that Carson has arguably made the strongest statement from HUD for manufactured housing in the past 20 years.

This award has nada to do with that, but it reflects an award-winning mindset that is emerging at HUD.  Thus, the value of spotlighting this recognition given to HUD.

HUD RECEIVES HUD RECEIVES MICROSTRATEGY’S 2019 FEDERAL IT INNOVATION AWARD

Department receiving award for advancements in data analytics and digital transformation

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) yesterday received MicroStrategy’s 2019 Federal Information Technology Innovation Award. HUD won the Award because HUD’s Office of Community Planning and Development’s (CPD) modernized its Grants Dashboard.

CPD Grants Dashboard provides funding information for each city and state that receives CPD program funds, in a place-based format. The Dashboard details the size of each grant received over the past several years, as well as the total amount of funds currently available to be spent on affordable housing and community and economic development activities. Before modernizing the Grants Dashboard, HUD relied on manual reports that could not efficiently drive critical decisions or provide oversight into all grant programs.

“It is a great honor to receive MicroStrategy’s 2019 Federal IT Innovation Award. We have made it a priority to modernize our systems to improve the way HUD does business,” said Secretary Ben Carson. “We still have work to do until all of HUD’s systems are up to date, but this award shows that our efforts are paying dividends and the results have made HUD a stronger, more nimble agency.”

“We are incredibly proud to recognize the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development with the 2019 Federal IT Innovation Award for their exemplary use of analytics to achieve significant ROI and operational efficiencies,” said Michael J. Saylor, CEO,  MicroStrategy Incorporated. “Their CPD Grants Dashboard showcases an innovative enterprise analytics solution while serving as a blueprint for digital transformation initiatives across the federal government.”

Steven W. Rawlinson, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development for CPD, and Maribel Gatica, Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for CPD, received the award on behalf of HUD at MicroStrategy’s Federal IT Summit in Washington, D.C.
