In society, politics, investing, business, romance, and careers there is a routine tug-of-war between emotions and rational thought.
The modern era, not unlike that of yellow journalism from over a century ago, finds competing and often partisan sources presenting views of the same event in often profoundly different ways.
“Yellow journalism was a style of newspaper reporting that emphasized sensationalism over facts. During its heyday in the late 19th century it was one of many factors that helped push the United States and Spain into war in Cuba and the Philippines, leading to the acquisition of overseas territory by the United States,” says History.State.gov. To rephrase, yellow journalism is designed to manipulate people, then – or today.
While it helps to understand the left-right media divide, that alone isn’t enough.
The following video tonight is an introduction to critical – that means analytical – thinking. As the narrator explains, critical thought should not be confused with criticism. While they’re selling a class in the last few seconds, a quick sound introduction to the principles of analytical thought are well laid out in under 2 ½ minutes.
MHProNews routinely uses the tools of critical thinking, which are part of the education of any clear thinker. For example, attorneys and medical professionals alike are taught to search for the facts, and sift past emotions and smoke screens.
Given the problems of spin, weaponized reporting, biased, prejudiced, inaccurate news – and often emotionally charged, but rationally flawed opinion columns and talking heads – critical thought is important for professionals, business owners, investors, home owners, and all others.
While hopefully every column on MHProNews demonstrates analytical thought, and a search for the truth, an example is found in the related report below. The feedback from industry members on this hot topic has already made it clear that it resonates with a number of manufactured housing professionals. Enjoy. ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)
