Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

4waysfedratehikesimpactsyouyourcustomersplusmhmarketupdates

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) increases the fed funds rate 25 basis points to a range 2 percent to 2.25 percent, per CNBC and other sources.

  • The FOMC also projects one more hike before the end of the year and three in 2019.
  • Wednesday’s statement drops language saying that “the stance of monetary policy remains accommodative.”
  • Fed officials collectively estimate gross domestic product (GDP) to rise 3.1 percent in 2018, an upward revision from the 2.8 projection in June. The forecast for 2019 also moved higher by 0.1 percentage points to 2.5 percent.

Baring the unforeseen, don’t be surprised if the reality of GDP growth goes even higher, especially if the GOP holds onto the House, and expands its hold on the U.S. Senate.  An upcoming report on the Daily Business News will explore that midterm projection issue, which bucks the trend of most mainstream media reports.

The funds rate serves as the baseline for multiple forms of consumer debt as well as savings accounts and CD rates. The funds rate increase will be felt immediately in the prime rate and increase credit card charges, but its impact in other areas usually is more incremental.

Along with the rate increase, the FOMC continued to project one more hike before the end of the year and three in 2019,” said CNBC.
