TVA Offers Incentive for ENERGY STAR Homes

The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) weekly newsletter reports the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is increasing the rebate amounts for ENERGY STAR manufactured homes to $1,950 per home for customers in their seven state service area.  Under the program, home manufacturing plants will receive $1,450 for each ENERGY STAR home sold to a customer of a TVA member utility, and HVAC distributors will receive $500 to reduce the customer cost of purchasing a heat pump, required in all ENERGY STAR electrically-heated homes.  Each home manufacturer also receives a $1,000 federal tax credit, placing the dollar value for each home at nearly $3,000.  While the initial incentive benefits the manufacturer, the long range savings of about $50 month will benefit the manufactured home owner.  In addition, the ENERGY STAR rating increases the value of the home.
