Sheriff Shooting for Modular Units to Expand Jail

The Times Press Recorder says San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson states it’s only a matter of time until low-level offenders are released from California state prisons and lodged in local jurisdictional jails and halfway houses.  Sheriff Parkinson says he has room for more men but would have to increase the capacity for women inmates, and intends to acquire two modular facilities.  Each modular unit will hold forty offenders, and Parkinson estimates he will need $200,000 to acquire and outfit the units and hire additional staff.  Despite his budget being cut, he is working with county officials to raise the money to convert the units to a lock-up facility.
