Modular Housing Costs higher than Original Estimates

dublin_modular_for_homeless__utv_dot_ieFollowing the continuing story of modular homes for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, the first installment of which were originally set for last Christmas, as MHProNews posted March 3, 2016, utv.ie reports the homes will now cost approximately 1.5 times more than originally stated, around €243,000 each ($215,298 USD). The original estimate was €100,000 each ($88,600 USD).

The first of the 500 proposed homes for several sites in the city, 22 modulars destined to be sited in Poppintree in north Dublin, will now be ready at the end of this month, well past the Christmas date originally set.

The Dublin City Council says it would be inappropriate to disclose the final cost since it is currently involved in negotiations with the builder.

Production was initially held up by inclement weather and work stoppage protests by neighborhood groups. ##
