MHCs buck the trend, as the Dow plunged 331 points today, worldwide markets drop

Stock_Report_Jan_5_2015-posted-on-mhpronews-comELS, SUN and UMH bucked the trends in MH and the broader markets, each gaining a bit in the broader market drop. Oil prices ended at about $50 a barrel. Marketwatch says that some traders are betting on $20 oil.

CNN Money tells MHProNews that “the main culprits of market jitters these days are falling oil prices and the souring global economy.”  Although low gas prices are great for U.S. consumers, who are enjoying gas prices of $2 or less not seen since the worst of the Great Recession, there comes a point when sustained low prices begin to really hurt energy company stocks and jobs in the U.S. and other countries around the world.

Recent events have caused concern among stock analysts and investors. Many believe that stocks are overdue for a correction when the market falls 10 percent or more. There was a close call in early October when U.S. markets dipped, but they never quite got to an official correction.

CNN Money’s Fear & Greed Index went from “Neutral” a week ago to “Fear” today, another barometer showing that the sentiment on Wall Street is shifting back into anxious mode.

The Associated Press says that European stock markets slumped and the euro plunged against the dollar on reports that German Chancellor Angela Merkel no longer believes it would be too risky for the 19-member eurozone if Greece dropped out of the currency bloc.
