Manufactured Housing Communities in Danger Zone

Just as a property tax increase goes before voters to relocate manufactured housing communities away from Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane County, Washington, the  base commander issued a statement that the communities are in an “accident potential zone” that is incompatible with Air Force operations. The 188 homes are primarily occupied by retirees on fixed incomes, according to spokesman.com, and Catholic Charities and other organizations are planning to build affordable apartment to relocate the residents. County Commissioner Al French says the base’s concerns are legitimate, and that the $18.1 million it will cost to acquire the communities is much less than the potential economic loss if the base would close, MHProNews has learned.
