Illinois Dept. of Health Joins Legal Action over Manufactured Home Community

Following up on a post MHProNews published March 28, 2014 regarding raw sewage allegedly being dumped on the grounds of the Cortland MHC, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has joined the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) in seeking legal action against the community owners for violation of the state’s Private Sewage Disposal Code. One resident of the community says the smell he noticed was not unusual, and that he has complained about sewer problems in the past. MHProNews has learned from daily-chronicle.com the IDPH has the power to revoke or suspend Cortland’s license to operate, but not while the attorney general’s office seeks enforcement to clean up the sewage and repair the septic system. Cortland has not been cited for any violations previously. ##
