FHFA Annouces that it will Soon Publish A Proposed Rule in the Federal Register on Affordable Housing Goals for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

This week, the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) issued a press release stating that it will soon publish in the Federal Register a proposed rule regarding affordable housing goals for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. FHFA is the regulator for Fannie and Freddie. The press release also mentions that the FHFA intends to issue in the near future a proposed rule regarding the “duty to serve” manufactured housing requirement as found in the 2008 federal housing act. MHI has been encouraging the FHFA to issue this rule proposal over the past 18 months. Once the proposed rule regarding”duty to serve” is published in the Federal Register, MHI will submit a letter to the FHFA commenting on the proposal. MHI strongly believes that Fannie and Freddie should be required to purchase a significant volume of both real and personal property (home only) manufactured housing loans.
