Dow Rises, S&P Nears New High, Housing Stocks Close Mixed

The news that Larry Summers withdrew his bid to be the next Federal Reserve Chairman sent the S&P surging towards a new high in today’s trading, while the Dow spiked over 100 points and the Nasdaq nudged down. CNNMoney reports the Dow gained 118.72 points, +0.77 percent, to close at 15,494.78. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq dropped 0.12 percent, -4.33 points to end the day at 3,717.85, while the S&P gained +0.57 percent, +9.61 points, to finish at 1,697.60. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite gained +1.45 percent to end today’s session at 1890.2. Housing stocks we track closed mixed or even. Louisiana Pacific Corp. advanced the most of tracked stocks, +5.32 percent, +0.92, to end the day at 18.03, while Universal Forest Products, Inc. fell the most of stocks we follow, -1.63 percent, -0.66, to finish at 39.74.
