Dow Hits New High while most Tracked Housing Stocks Lose Ground

Stocks started the day slow but were energized in afternoon trading as corporate returns began trickling in, pushing the Dow to a new high. CNNMoney reports the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced +0.41 percent, +59.98 points, to end the day at 14,673.46. The Nasdaq gained +0.48 percent, +15.61 points, to close at 3,237.86, while the S&P advanced +0.35 percent, +5.54 points, to end the day at 1,568.61. The Yahoo! Finance Manufactured Housing Composite gained +0.37 percent to close at 1556.9. Excepting two stocks, all housing stocks we track lost ground, or closed even. Third Avenue Value Fund (April 8) managed to squeak out a gain of +0.48 percent, +0.25 points, to end today’s session at 52.00. Skyline Corp. fell the most of stocks we follow, dropping -7.85%, -0.41, to end the day at 4.81. Affiliated Managers Group 151.01 +0.67 (+0.45%). Cavco Industries 44.70 -0.46 (-1.02%). Clayton Homes, Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance, as well as MH home-building, lending and other housing suppliers parent company Berkshire Hathaway 157,570 -430.00 (-0.27%). Champion, Liberty Homes, Deer Valley and Palm Harbor continued unchanged. Drew Industries 35.73 -0.17 (-0.47%). Equity LifeStyle Properties 80.08 -0.05 (-0.06%). Louisiana Pacific Industries 20.52 -0.06 (-0.29%). Nobility Homes 5.50 -0.25 (-4.35%). Patrick Industries, Inc. 14.31 -0.30 (-2.05%). Sun Communities, Inc. 48.11 -0.19 (-0.39%).
