Action Alert! Billions in Opportunities, Industry Professionals, Deadline for Comments to HUD Loom

ActNowJune14DeadlineBillionsAtStakeHUDCommentsUntil 11:59 PM on June 14, manufactured housing industry professionals have a unique opportunity to sound off in favor of regulatory relief for the HUD Code manufactured housing program. The comments request is based upon President Trump’s Executive Order #13777

Because President Trump has a proven willingness to effect regulatory change under his executive authority, this is far more likely to have an impact than anything that might be attempted later legislatively. To rephrase, this is a unique opportunity that ought not to be missed.

We’ve reviewed the first few visible comments posted on the Regulations.gov website,” said L. A. “Tony” Kovach, “and they are okay, but miss some key information and important points.”

Some include fact errors, which apparently have come from a third party.  When some fact errors are present, that may cause those reading those comments to dismiss them or reduce their significance.”

MHARR has stressed that without replacing the current program administrator, any regulatory change could be thwarted from within.  This is a point that MHI has avoided to date, and appears to be missing from the comment letters now visible.

A link to MHARR’s comments on the issue can be found here.

TrillionsInUSAffordableHousingNeeded
When you do the math from the recent Zillow study, and compare it to data from NAHB or NAR, there are trillions of dollars in affordable housing demand –
and thus opportunities – in the next few years. Taxpayer subsidized programs won’t be able to cover that cost, but the proper approaches for manufactured housing could.

Facts Matter, Per Federal Tips on Submissions

Please note, that the economic impact of manufactured housing is over $5.5 billion in retail dollars in 2016.  That’s based upon the June 1016 Census bureau data, of $70,500 average per home, times 81,100 homes which equals $5,717,550,000.

The rule of thumb that manufactured housing producers has used, per MHI, has been 1 home produced equals 1 job.  The Daily Business News notes these data points because what seems to be a form letter has some of those figures wrong on the regulatory comment site.

Readers are encouraged to share their comments about reforms needed at HUD with the regulatory program, based upon President Trump’s Executive Order #13777, which can be transmitted or posted at this link below.

4 Steps for a Personalized and Effective Comment

Please follow these simple steps for an effective and PERSONALIZED comment on HUD regulations.

  • 1) Navigate to the page linked above or click here.
  • 2) Download and save the MHProNews/MHLivingNews sample letter (click here). Then upload that document at the Choose files button (see arrow above).
  • 3) Using the comments box, write a PERSONALIZED message. You can, for example, explain what you do in manufactured housing, and why this issue matters to you, your team, your prospects, and customers.
  • 3a) Example: If I were in retail – for instance – I’d mention how often local zoning officials try to block your home buyers from placing a new, attractive home in a town, city, or county area. You and those potential buyers are prevented by local officials from getting their part of the American dream. That’s what the enhanced preemption of the manufactured housing improvement act is supposed to do, allow for the placement of a manufactured home!  Many end up renting instead of owning because of that NIMBY problem. You could draft your comment in Word, check for spelling errors, and then cut and paste your comment into the comments box, as shown above.
  • 4) Complete the name, contact information, email, and push “CONTINUE.” Follow the prompts, and you’re done! ##
