Anisha S., 15, a student at Delhi Public School, East, was drawing homes built with blocks, as in Lego-type blocks. She was participating in Arun Swaminathan’s Designuru workshop on building modular homes that could later be disassembled and moved. The process does not require much space or skilled manpower, and adds virtually nothing to the landfill.

I have always wanted to be an architect but I never realized that the Lego mantra could be used to design portable, lightweight homes. One can also modify these homes with time,” said Anisha, one of the youngest participants at the festival.

Architect Sruthi Ravi, 25, designed a transitional house for slum-dwellers, which can be transported and installed in less than 48 hours.

Techie Mangesh SK, 34, designed a collapsible car, very useful dealing with congestion and parking problems in such a large city as Bengaluru. ##
