Family Leaves Suburbs to Help Residents of Manufactured Home Community

maple-hill-mh-park (2) How many people would leave a two-story home in an upscale community to live in a manufactured home community where most of the residents are living near, or below, the poverty line?  That’s just what one family in Corcoran, Minnesota, did.  Jill and Brian Dejewski, felt that God was calling them to help the residents of Maple Hill Estates, a 200-home site community where many of the heads of households do not speak English. As a result, the Dejewskis, starting from scratch, developed a series of programs that include food aid, legal assistance, after-school tutoring, English language classes and children’s summer camps. They also recruited dozens of volunteers from churches, schools and civic groups to help with the project. It was Jill’s frequent trips between the manufactured home community and her two-story home, which led her to decide that her family could serve the residents of the community more completely if they moved in with them.  As might be expected, KARE 11 News  tells MHProNews  that the decision meant concessions. The Dejewskis’ multi-sectional (“double-wide”) manufactured home was purchased on Craigslist.   It was moved from Wisconsin to their new location. They left behind the basement, garage and attic – all features they’d had in their previous home. Now the couple wants to expand their programs to other manufactured home communities and has created a non-profit organization called Mobile Hope.” “These really are the forgotten people – they are the invisible people of our country today,” Brian Dejewski said in a video produced by the nonprofit. There’s a cultural stigma that’s laid over mobile home communities that makes it that much more challenging for the people who live in them.” “The Dejewskis really believe in what they’re doing here,” Corcoran Mayor Ken Guenthner said. They understand the significance of leading by example, of committing yourself to a cause, and they’re doing it. Frankly, I wish that more of us were capable of doing that.” ## (Photo Credit: KARE 11 News) sandra-lane-daily-business-news-mhpronews-com-75x75-   Article Submitted by Sandra Lane to – Daily Business News- MHProNews.
