In a release late yesterday afternoon, the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) informed their members, MHProNews, and the industry at large about a special honor bestowed on James “Jim” Shea, Jr.

Their release is below and will be followed by additional information.

Washington, D.C., August 12, 2019 – The Board of Directors of the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) has presented outgoing Chairman James F. Shea, Jr. with a Resolution and commemorative plaque honoring his long-time service and leadership within MHARR, and on behalf of the entire manufactured housing industry.

The Board’s Resolution commends Mr. Shea for the countless hours that he has spent working to advance the federally-regulated manufactured housing industry and the cause of affordable home ownership for all Americans at every income level.  His unwavering devotion, over more than 30 years, to both the industry and its consumers is reflected not only in the many leadership posts that he has held within MHARR, but also by his induction – in 2011 – into the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart, Indiana.

In his various leadership posts within MHARR, Mr. Shea was a staunch proponent of the Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000, a landmark law which helped to transform the “mobile homes” of the Post-War Era into legitimate housing for all purposes, while maintaining their fundamental affordability and availability for all Americans.  He appeared many times before Congress and met with officials throughout the federal government to promote fair and reasonable regulation of the industry, responsible consumer protection and the central role of manufactured housing in meeting the ever-growing demand for affordable home ownership.

In his post-chairmanship role, Mr. Shea continues to be an important voice within MHARR and a valuable contributor to the continuing progress of the HUD Code manufactured housing industry and its consumers.

In a joint statement in Washington, D.C., MHARR Chairman, John Bostick and MHARR President and CEO Mark Weiss stated: “It has been our privilege for many decades to work with Jim Shea and his entire family. Like his father, the late James Shea, Sr., Jim is a giant within the manufactured housing industry, with many and varied accomplishments to his credit. Most important, though, beyond his work as a successful industry executive, has been his tireless devotion to the industry itself and to its betterment and advancement over the course of so many years.” They continued: “Jim’s contributions are legendary, and place him in a category of accomplishment that few others in our industry have – or will — ever reach.”

The Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform is a Washington, D.C.-based national trade association
representing the views and interests of independent producers of federally-regulated manufactured housing.

One of the founders of MHARR and a leader in the promotion of affordable quality homes, he was a leader in the development of the landmark Manufactured Housing Improvement Act of 2000. He was Ohio MHAs outstanding manufacturer in all years from 2001 to 2006, and was recognized in 2002 with the National Association of Home Builders National Housing Quality Award. He was a member of the Midwest MH Show committee and served as Advertising Chairman.

According to Congressional testimony, Shea’s family began their business out of an old, abandoned sauerkraut factory in the small Amish community of Nappanee, Indiana, that my father embraced his entrepreneurial spirit when he started to produce factory-built homes.” Now, that’s a slice of American business creativity.
