Collaboration Brings Modular Homes to Town

PressConnects reports from Binghamton, New York, First Ward Action Council will develop three single-family modular homes on property it is buying from the city to help stabilize the neighborhood. Aimed at first time homeowners of modest means, the homes will sell for $70,000 each at which time they will be returned to the tax rolls, according to Tariq Abdelazim, director of planning, housing, and community development. Metro Interfaith Housing and the Binghamton Homeownersip Academy will partner to select the buyers of the modular homes and provide ownership counseling. $300,000 of the funding will come from RestoreNY, and First Ward Action Council will provide $180,000 in state money. Completion date is set for early summer 2012.
