Mescalero Tribe Offers thanks for Modular Homes

Following an article MHProNews.com published Feb. 27, 2014 regarding surplus modular homes from the U. S. military being sited on the Apache Mescalero Reservation in New Mexico, officials from the tribal nation offered a public thank you to the military and the General Services Administration at a ceremony March 7. Over the last 15 months the tribe has received nearly 100 modular homes, according to ruidosonews.com. Alvin Benally, Mescalero Housing director, said, “We have a housing waiting list for 500 families. Some have been waiting for housing as long as 20 years. It is not uncommon for some residences to have 12 to 15 individuals across three generations living under the same roof.” Fort Bliss brass witnessed several of the homes being sited, after which the tour culminated with a ceremony at the Inn of the Mountain Gods and presentation of plaques by Mescalero President Danny Brueninger and several tribal council members to base personnel. ##
