Massachusetts Town wants to Classify Manufactured Homes as Affordable Housing

mhc__Peter_Periera__The_Standard_dash_Times__acushnet_ma_brookside_mobile_home_parkAccording to wareham-ma.village soup, Wareham, Massachusetts Selectmen Peter Teitlebaum reported to other members of the Wareham Board of Selectmen that he testified at a legislative hearing in Boston in support of Wareham’s home rule petition. It would allow the town to count manufactured homes as affordable housing in order to meet the state’s quota of having ten percent of housing as affordable.

If a town does not meet the ten percent quota, called 40B, developers are allowed to build housing without regard for some local bylaws, as MHProNews understands, provided a portion of the new housing is considered affordable. Mr. Teitlebaum reported the legislators “seemed genuinely interested.##
