Variance not Granted for Modular Homes

Bartlesville Radio reports that the City Council in Dewey, OK received a request for a zoning variance to put two modular homes on lots in the city. Two people in this northeastern Oklahoma town, including the petitioner, spoke in favor of the variance, and four opposed it. Council members voiced concerns abut the homes meeting building codes, saying they cannot determine enough information about the modular homes from a marketing photograph. No motion was made following the discussion. At the last meeting, the council approved enforcing the regulations against recreational vehicle (RV) owners who were not storing their RVs properly. City Manager Kevin Trease says the code has not been updated since 1977, and he is making revisions. However, he is enforcing the ordinance against people living in RVs.
