Sen. Donnelly Foresees Passage of Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing

Commodore_homes_Gerald_Faulkner_fastens_reinforcing_strips__credit_elkhart_truthUpdating a story about the reintroduced Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing bill in the U. S. Senate, co-sponsored by Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), CEO Dick Jennison of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) calls Sen. Donnelly a “champion” of the industry.

Donnelly has high hopes for this measure which did not reach the Senate floor last year. This time we have four senators right off the bat who are pushing it,” Donnelly said Wednesday. There’s a bipartisan effort behind it. All of us have told Majority Leader Mitch McConnell how important it is. I think he’ll see this and say, ’Here’s a win-win, as opposed to one more fight.’ I’m very hopeful we can get this done.

According to what elkharttruth tells MHProNews, unintended consequences of the Dodd-Frank Act make it nearly impossible for people trying to sell their manufactured homes for under $20,000 find buyers who can obtain credit because of the ‘high-cost’ classification.

In addition, says Jennison, “The current language handcuffs retailers’ ability to even help fill out an application. This bill is critical for our industry,” Jennison said. “We’re the only industry that has and provides affordable, quality housing.”

The manufactured housing industry employs over 10,000 people in Indiana. ##
