Rezoning Request Denied for Manufactured Home Retailer

rezoning_bing_imagesThe Ford County Commission in Dodge City, Kansas denied Rosario N. Acosta-Aponte’s request to rezone residential land on Highway 50 to commercial for selling manufactured homes. He wanted to display five homes built in 2000 or later and would not take trade-ins, as dodgeglobe tells MHProNews.

Zoning Administrator Mark Shriwise said “The board wasn’t against their plan but it’s spot zoning. You’re out in the middle of nowhere with agriculture and residential. They didn’t want to turn down development, so their suggestion was to look at another development place.

Resident Cleo Adams also opposed the zoning change, saying it was a safety issue because of manufactured homes being pulled in and out of the property on a highway. He added, “There’s only 3 acres there. By the time the highway goes through, they’ll probably be down to 2 acres. We’re in a very nice housing project and we don’t feel it needs to be rezoned to commercial. We’d like to keep it nice.” ##
