Rent Control in MHCs too Expensive to Maintain

Capitola-SoquelPatch reports the Capitola (CA) City Council voted 3-2 to repeal its rent control ordinance on MHCs, after twice postponing the vote several months ago. Over a dozen community members and residents protested with signs. Residents of Surf and Sand Mobile Home Park reached their own settlement and agreed not to appear at the meeting. Council members say the fight to maintain it was getting too expensive. Councilman Sam Storey says: “This small city of 10,000 has been fighting mobile home rent control for the last ten years, and spending millions of dollars, and its true some of the residents did have to pay for that, but the city bore the majority of the expense.” Councilman Michael Termini says he knows it is good for the economic health of the city, but he could not vote for the repeal.
