Planning Commission, City Council at Odds over Zoning

Although the Brownwood, Texas Planning and Zoning Commission had denied a request to rezone property from MH Manufactured Home District to M1 Restricted Industrial District, the Brownwood City Council approved the request on first reading. Donald Allgood, Jr. said he uses the property to store heavy earth-moving equipment and other construction materials, according to brownwoodtx.com, and he also lives in a manufactured home (MH) on the property. If the city council approves the rezone on third reading, then Allgood’s home would not be in compliance with the new zoning. As a “non-conforming use,” if the manufactured home is removed, it would have to be replaced with a newer model either the same size or larger, with a smaller modular home, or a site-built dwelling. MHProNews has learned the property is surrounded by MH zoned homes.
