Plan to Replace pre-HUD Code Homes Hits Aesthetic Snag

Updating a story MHProNews last posted May 21, 2014 regarding Bluffton, South Carolina’s effort to replace aging pre-HUD Code units with new manufactured homes (MH), the initiative has stalled due to concerns from the planning commission over replacing the 59 MH with new homes, but without the usual architectural review process that would insure Old Town’s aesthetic and historical value. The four criteria required under the proposal do not address either the appearance or the materials that would be used on the new homes, according to islandpacket.com. The commissioners voted unanimously to table the amendment. Meanwhile, town planners say they will develop a new proposal for the commissioners to consider at their next meeting June 25. ##
