Pr Web reports from Africa that ZY Properties of Lagos, Nigeria has responded to the country’s housing shortage by offering manufactured and modular homes and cabins that can be built and assembled quickly. Noting that Nigeria is a developing country that is trying to catch up to Western and Asian economies, the report suggests serious investors should be looking at factory-built housing as an option to fill the housing needs of cities throughout Nigeria. The shortage of housing leads to higher rents, and the company is appealing to government ministers, individuals and corporations to help ease that burden.

Could there be any possibility of actually exporting from the U.S.? Or is that too much $ in freight charges? Certainly is a long way away from the West Coast… Hmmm? Anyone? What about exporting homes to other parts of the world?
A western Canada company is bidding to supply Japan with quantities of modular homes, as is Australia.
Canada recently displayed a modular home at a show in China. Perhaps it’s a step for building modular in China to export—I can’t imagine we can beat the cost of something they build there. I think Africa could be a huge market.
Mike,nnA Canadian firm plans to ship homes to Japan after their disaster. There is no reason why U.S. firms can’t go after foreign markets, in fact, they do. n
