New Law Helps Prevent Community Closures in Washington

From Washington State, the HeraldNet reports that residents of manufactured home communities in the city of Lynnwood are being reassured by a new law that requires community owners in the city to go through a rezone process before selling the land to be used for other purposes. The report indicates the new law does not apply to communities that were zoned for commercial use before the law passed or to communities being redeveloped for senior housing. Some fourteen communities have closed between 2006 and 2009, displacing 669 households.
