BloombergBusinessWeek reports Honolulu City Councilman Tom Berg has proposed building modular housing on agricultural lands in Oahu as a means to meet the demand for affordable housing. He suggests allowing the homes to remain there for up to five years, and that the cost of leasing would be similar to that of a car payment. The planning and zoning committee is scheduled to vote on the proposal at their next meeting, Monday, Oct. 17.

The primary materials, because of termites, need to be steel and aluminum. Are there any modular builders capable of building these products?
