Modular Homes Going Up Near Beachfront

ShoreNewsToday.com reports that construction permits for new homes in Avalon, New Jersey, increased from 534 in 2009 to 591 in 2010.  Borough construction official John Tracy said, “Modular homes are catching on.  Ten permits were given for modular homes in 2010.  This year, there are already 14.”  Some question the sturdiness and resale value of modular homes, but consumers see it as an inexpensive way to live close to the beach in this small town near the southern tip of the state.  At the very least, it may suggest a thaw in the local building and real estate business.
