On Wednesday, MHI-PAC hosted a successful fundraising luncheon for Senator Jon Tester (MT-D) which raised $12,000 for his campaign committee. Republican Congressman Denny Rehberg’s decision to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Tester makes this Montana race one of the most competitive in the country. The Tester campaign is gearing up for what promises to be a tough yet exciting election.
Senator Tester is a key Member of the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs and Commerce Committees and a friend of the industry. He has been a supporter of manufactured housing for many years, introduced the “Energy Efficient Manufactured Housing Act of 2009,” and was the driving force behind the mobile home replacement program.
A provision of this bill is intended to encourage owners of pre-1976 manufactured homes to replace those homes with new energy efficient manufactured homes that meet Energy Star standards. This legislation would offer $7500 rebates which may be provided to facilitate the purchase of a new Energy Star qualified home.
