KRGVTV reports from Laferia, Texas, that an MH dealer with two pending civil cases against it has received a fresh batch of accusations alleging fraud. Park Girl in Laferia, in south Texas, has been accused of taking deposits for manufactured homes and then breaking the contract without returning the money. Erika Pena gave Jo Leigh Ares a $4,000 deposit. “She sits you down and let’s you pick out everything and she writes it down and that’s the way it’s supposed to be,” says Pena. She refused to pay the balance when her choices were ignored, and shortly thereafter received a letter that the agreement was canceled, but sans the 4k deposit. With other complaints having been lodged against the company, the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), Manufactured Housing Division, is investigating, according to the Texas Manufactured Housing Association (TMHA). Park Girl’s website says it specializes in selling previously owned manufactured homes, but sells new as well. The report also indicates Park Girl operates an MH community.

I am extremely glad to see that Joleigh Ares is being investigated. We purchased a used mobile home from her in March 2011. She refused to give us keys, (we had to pay a locksmith to come and make keys), and when we made a list of those things that needed to be done (per her agreement), she did nothing. She was rude, short-tempered, and condescending to my elderly parents who are winter Texans. I hope the state shuts down her business!

Got the date for the trial? Thanks.

Multiple motions, submitted by JoLeigh Ares’ counsel, are pending in the Cameron County 404th District Court. I spoke with the prosecutors, early August 2017. They assured me that they have a solid case. I do hope that your parents, and others affected by Ms. Ares’ greed and reprehensible business practices, will receive relief from the proceedings. More importantly, I hope that the prison sentence is lengthy.
Kind regards.
