Manufactured Housing Institute’s National Modular Housing Council reports dip in Q1 Modular Home shipments

breakfast-with-nancy-geer-new-york-housing-credit-exterior-posted-manufactured-home-living-news-As part of the ongoing mixed signals from the factory built housing market, the Manufactured Housing Institute’s (MHI) National Modular Housing Council (NMHC) reports that 2,763 new MODs were shipped during the first quarter of 2015 in the states where they track shipments. That is a 3.9% decline over the same period in 2014. There were increases in 23 states, declines in 11.

As roughly 2 dozen factory built home state associations know, this is a similar challenge they face on the manufactured housing front. While HUD Code manufactured homes have been on an overall steady 5 year rise nationally, there are states where that growth trend doesn’t apply.

This is a cautionary note to those who want to leave HUD Code sales to “escape” to modular homes,” a factory built home pro told MHProNews off-the-record. That source noted that modular home sales are clearly important to factory builders, and a good option for consumers.  New modular home sales continue to lag behind manufactured home shipments, see the latest manufactured home shipment report, linked here. ##
