London Modular Housing on the Move

Following up on a post MHProNews.com published Feb. 19, 2014 concerning a modular housing project aimed at singles in London, England in need of affordable accommodations, the 100 square foot modular cube costs around $50,000 to build and can be rented for $235 a week—two-thirds less than the going rate. Each unit has a bedroom, bath and combination living room/kitchen and the modules can be stacked or sited side by side, and will likely be assembled in groupings of 24 to 40 units. Developed by the YMCA London South West, investors can expect a return of five percent per year, with the first set of flats to be completed by the end of 2014. According to 0pp-connect.com, the Y:Cube is a partnership with designer Roger Stirk Harbour + Partners, and the management and construction is handled by contractor Insulshell. ##
