Indiana Flood Victims Receive New Modular Home

From Indiana the Herald Argus reports that two years after floodwaters destroyed their home, Sandy and Don Dingman now have a new modular home. The La Porte County Health Department and FEMA condemned the old home. The couple tried to rent, but found that challenging with their two collies. Insurance didn’t cover everything, but the couple found help from the Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana (LARRI), which assisted them in purchasing the 2,200-square-foot one-level home. LARRI provides financial assistance to victims of the September 2008 floods with a grant from the Lilly Endowment through the Northwest Indiana United Way. According to the report, some assistance also came from local elected officials, including Congressman Joe Donnelly who helped convinced FEMA to “re-open the books.”
