Inhabitat reports an Italian firm has developed an energy efficient tubular Alpine cabin designed especially for mountain climbers and skiers. LEAP(Living, Ecological, Alpine Pods) Factory’s Gervasutti refuge is solar-powered, weighs 5,500 pounds and has six contact points with the ground. The elongated modular contains nearly 100 square feet and will sleep 12. Straddling the France-Italy border, the unit was installed on 9,300 foot Mt. Blanc by helicopter in two days.
