The Wausau Daily Herald reports Wisconsin’s Democratic Party has leveled charges at Gov. Scott Walker that his eliminating sales and other taxes on manufactured housing built in the state but sold beyond the border is politically motivated. Wausau Homes’ owners donated a total of $25,000 to Walker’s campaign over a two-year period, but deny any involvement in the tax break discussion. Wausau co-owner Jay Schuette said he is not a supporter of the tax break, but he did support Gov. Walker because of his politics and fiscal platform. His co-owner brother, Tom, helped organize a rally opposing health care reform, and the family did host Walker when he campaigned in Wausau. Wisconsin Housing Alliance (WHA) Executive Director Ross Kinzler said he originally pushed for the tax break for a southeastern Wisconsin homes manufacturer. The state estimates it will lose $450,000 in revenues over a two-year period due to the exemption.
