Congress Adjourns, Lame Duck Session Looms in November

On October 30, the House and Senate recessed for the remainder of the campaign season and are not scheduled to return until November 15.

Prior to leaving, Congress adopted a short-term continuing funding resolution (CR) to fund governmental programs at their existing FY2010 levels through December 3, 2010. The measure extends Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and GSE loan limits for high cost areas through FY2011 and extends USDA’s Section 502 guaranteed single family housing loan programs. The president is expected to sign the measure.

It is unclear what legislative issues will dominate the “lame duck” session of Congress. However, Congress is expected to complete work on the must pass 12 annual spending bills and potentially move a tax extension measure.
