City Ordinance Prevents Siting of more MH in Community

florida_milton__matthew_brown_press_gazete__credit_sorensen_rentalsKaj and Carla Sorensen would like to add three more manufactured homes to their Sorensen Rentals manufactured home community (MHC) in Milton, Fla., but the city’s Code of Land Ordinances is not zoned to allow any more non-conforming structures, according to what srpressgazette tells MHProNews.

City Planner Randy Jorgenson said, “The council could change what the code would indicate, but in order to do that they would have to change the law.

Noting that by adding more MH units to the existing community he would be providing much needed affordable housing, Sorensen said he and his wife are willing to work with the city until the city council can make a decision.

The council referred the issue to a committee level before making a final decision. Sorenesen said he is losing $20,000 annually by not having the spaces occupied. The couple acquired the property with MH on it in 2004, but they were not aware of the restrictions.

Milton Mayor Wesley Meiss said the council should conduct research before voting on any outcome. You want to be able to look at it and know the history,” Meiss said. “Let’s look at it and make the right decision. ##
