Chinese Egg Home Not All It’s Cracked Up to Be

ChinaDaily reports that an egg home that made its way through the annals of the internet is now gone from its parking space. The 6-square-meter mobile “egg home” that was built by its 24-year-old owner as a personal solution to the city’s sky-high rents may have been a tool in a publicity campaign organized by the owner’s employer. Witnesses said the company moved the tiny home onto a truck and drove it away. The report says the home, which looks like a huge egg covered in small bags, uses low technology and low-carbon ideas such as turning solar energy into electricity. The designer and occupant earlier told the press that he built his compact mobile home because he couldn’t afford his 900-yuan monthly rent.
