Canadian MH Builder Expects Japanese Orders to Spur Business

The Winnipeg Free Press says a Canadian company that has shipped nearly 12,000 manufactured homes to Japan in the past ten years, will send 200 temporary shelters within the next two weeks.  Viceroy Homes, Ltd. is building a basic structure with a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom that normally sells for under $10,000.  Based in Ontario, and with another facility in Richmond, British Columbia, Viceroy will team with its Japanese partner, Selco Homes, to bid on the approximately 100,000 single-family homes that will be needed over the next 3-5 years.  A company official said there is not much profit margin in the initial order.  However, Viceroy expects to hire 150 workers within the next month as the Japanese government seeks to provide manufactured housing to replace the thousands of homes damaged and destroyed.
