British Columbia MLA Looks to Sell Modular Housing in China

HQPrinceGeorge reports that Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation of Canada, is going to focus on lumber and wood product exports on his trip to China.   Bell, the George-MacKenzie Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), is particularly interested in exploring opportunities for selling modular housing.  Ten thousand people are expected to attend a Green Building Show that will feature a three-story modular house being erected in three days.  The demand for housing units in China is expected to exceed 86 million over the next five years, and Bell anticipates this type of construction will appeal to the Chinese government.  He noted that in the past year, British Columbia had a dozen saw mills working on China projects that accounted for 6,000 jobs, amid hopes that number will increase to 10,000.
