The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) recent legislative fly-in reportedly had the lowest turn-out in years; perhaps ever, according to sources who said they were in attendance.

The event was touted by MHI as focusing on two main issues.

1)     HUD Regulatory overreach, and

2)     Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act (see that update, linked here).

MHI would not comment about reports that “fewer than 30” attendees came to the event. In recent years, the total number hovered around 100 attendees.

One source speculated that Vice Presidents Lois Starkey and Tom Heinemann alleged “terminations” may have depressed attendance.  But another source pointed out that most plan for such an event several weeks in advance, so the Starkey/Heinemann news likely had only modest impact.

MHI’s self-proclaimed clout is embarrassingly disproven, say critics, when they can’t muster as many attendees at their annual Washington legislative event as some state association chapter meetings attract. A long-time member said, “Who wants to here Lesli Gooch lecture, posture and brag to attendees?” Reportedly, fewer than 30 came. MHI logo and graphic provided under fair use guidelines.

MHI’s own report of the event conspicuously provided no tally of attendance. That report, is linked as a download, linked here. ## (News, analysis)
