Federal Sprinkler Standard Issue Tabled

Following up on a story we published here June 21 concerning a federal sprinkler standard in manufactured housing, the Manufactured Housing Authority for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) reports the issue has been tabled.  The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) amended their “where required” sprinkler system proposal to “not required” June 17.  During a June 27 conference call meeting of a subcommittee of the Manufactured Housing Consensus Committee (MHCC), a subcommittee member suggested going back to the “where required” version of the proposal.  Another subcommittee member raised concerns over the proposal in relation to standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the International Residential Code (IRC), ending the discussion.  No date has been set for another meeting.  MHARR has objected to any call for a federal sprinkler standard in manufactured housing.
