Australia Drops Proposed Tax on Manufactured Homes

Following a story MHProNews last published Dec. 16, 2013, concerning the possibility of a tax on owners of manufactured homes imposed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the proposal has been withdrawn by the ATO after an uproar from manufactured homeowners and politicians. The goods and services tax (GST) would have added ten percent to rents of people who could least afford it. As abc.net.au reports, Paterson Liberal MP (member of parliament) Bob Baldwin described the tax as unfair and unconscionable “I took this issue up on behalf of my constituents, and I’m glad to say that today we have had a win on that,” stated Baldwin.
