Eligibility

Scholarships will be awarded to individuals nominated by VAMMHA members. Students enrolled in college, junior college or tech schools; graduating high school seniors who will be attending a college, junior college or tech school; gifted children and children with special needs can be nominated. Nominees can be sons or daughters of VAMMHA members or employees. Immediate family members of the VAMMHA Executive Committee are not eligible. A nominee must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Scholarships will be limited to undergraduate studies only (except in the case of gifted and special needs children).

Criteria

While the final decision about which applicants will be selected to receive scholarships rests solely with the VAMMHA Board of Directors, the decision will be based on multiple criteria contained in the application.

Scholarship Amounts

Each year, the number and amounts of scholarships awarded are determined by the VAMMHA Board of Directors, based on available resources.

Duration and Terms

Initial scholarships will be for one year, paid in two installments, one for the fall semester and one for the spring semester. The funds will be paid directly to the school on the condition that if the student withdraws from school, VAMMHA will be refunded that portion of the award amount that is proportional to the refund (if any) the student receives. Scholarship winners are eligible for consideration for annual renewal if they have maintained satisfactory progress with their studies.
