“What Light…”

William Shakespeare dramatically asked, "What light through yonder window breaks?" Have you been looking for the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel? Or even the light from behind a dark shade covered window? Then take heart.

When word came that U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs’ Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection, formally introduced legislation (S. 3484) to reduce regulatory burdens impeding access to affordable manufactured home financing, that looked like light coming from the end of the proverbial tunnel. Kudos to all who made that happen.

MHARR reported that our new home production shipment rally has gone into 11 straight months. While this most recent month was an anemic 1% growth over June last year, we are up overall 19.7% through June 2012 vs. the same period in 2011. Wouldn't we love to have news that the U.S. economy growing at even a third of that pace! See MHARR's report linked here.

Kudos to all who made that happen. Chances are good that you and your associates were involved in some way in the above.

Some initiatives simply take time.

It took time to get HR 3849 going and now S. 3484 to get introduced. But we now have both House and Senate versions, so let's run with it.

I've already reached out to both of our U.S. Senators to support S. 3484. My district's congressman is officially on board with HR 3849. Will you pick up the phone or email yours – again or for the first time – and do the same? What light through YOUR yonder window breaks? The U.S. Capital Switchboard phone number is (202) 224-3121.

Take ten and please just do it.

Then, ask your team mates, spouse or significant others, customers and contacts to do the same. That is how it works. Each one, reach one (or two, or three or…you get the idea).

Talent to Spare

I continue to be humbled and awed by the breadth of talent and insights that come in from various parts of the country, and from around the world. International messages or verbal contacts are becoming more common. Webilizer and other reports tell us that some 95% of our traffic on MHProNews.com is U.S.. The remaining 5% is Canadian or from other points around the globe. Over a million visits since last October. Some 6.5 million page views in that time. Stunning! Humbling. You certainly were part of making that happen, as is our our growing number of sponsors, writers and other contributors.

Planning is well underway for the Louisville Show in 2013. The 2012 Show was great. But Louisville 2013 will be much bigger than last January. Imagine this. MHI's annual Congress and Expo has about 3.5 times the attendance that a Roundtable event does. So when total attendance roughly doubled what we see at the MHI Congress in Las Vegas, that's stunning!

As prove, you see the movers and shakers, the mom and pops and all in between! Even with the show's expansion, I'm told the show floor space is approaching an early sell out. Booth space is not far behind.

The diversity of seminars, workshops and business building educational events will be unmatched. Mark your calendars, I'd love to see you there and at Texas and Iowa's fine upcoming events too. There are reasons why they are calling this year's Louisville show theme, the Money Tree.

What Light?

As I'm drafting this up on my iPad in the living room and look out through yonder window, the dawn's early light has transformed the dark landscape outside into a beautiful start to a summer's day. Light changes everything. Darkness does too.

Information! Innovation! Inspiration! Armed with these, we can transform the darkness faced into light. We can see our own businesses and careers grow, perhaps bigger and better than ever before.

Will it be easy?

Heck, no. Easy often doesn't pay well. Did easy earn any Olympian their gold medal? Never!
